Getting started

A quick tour of SimpleAvWx for iPhone: the first screen, the permissions it asks for, and where everything is.

On this page

The “Not For Navigation!” screen

When you first open SimpleAvWx you see a Warning: the app is not an FAA-approved source of information. Tap Agree to continue. If you tap Cancel, the app asks you to quit or Try Again.

The warning comes back from time to time as a reminder. That is expected.

Location permission

The first time you open the map, iOS asks whether SimpleAvWx can use your location. It’s used only on the map, to center it around you (Near Me) and to show where you are. Your location stays on your iPhone. Everything else works if you choose Don’t Allow.

Notifications permission

If you’ve imported a schedule, iOS asks whether SimpleAvWx can send notifications. They’re used only for ground stop, ground delay, and EDCT alerts about flights in My Trip, and only while SimpleAvWx is open. Everything else works if you choose Don’t Allow. See Delays & EDCT.

To change either permission later, open the iPhone Settings app → SimpleAvWx.
